Guided by our commitments under Textile Pact, we’ve developed a Material Matrix that helps our teams choose lower-impact fibres. It draws on independent life-cycle data, including the Higg Materials Sustainability Index, and recognised fibre standards such as the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) from Textile Exchange and Master of Flax Fibre. The Matrix helps us choose lower-impact materials — balancing quality, durability, and environmental performance. 

• Our fabrics are grouped into four categories:
• Best – The ideal
• Good – We love
• Okay – When there’s no alternative
• Limited Use – Minimal quantities only

By 2030, we aim to source mainly from the Best and Good categories, choosing others only when needed.

Our Material Matrix is the sourcing tool that guides our fibre choices. It draws on recognised third-party standards — including Textile Exchange's Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) and Masters of FLAX FIBRE — alongside available lifecycle data covering greenhouse-gas emissions, water, land use, chemicals, circularity and traceability.When we describe a material as lower impact, we mean it meets our preferred criteria in the Matrix: certified to a recognised standard where one exists, and supported by lifecycle evidence of reduced impact compared with the conventional version of the same fibre. No material performs best on every measure, and we review the Matrix bi-annually as evidence develops.
